Hi. I recently made a board topic asking if anyone knew of a site that had an accessible crossword puzzle. Well while talking on that board, I thought maybe it'd be nice to have a crossword puzzle of the day on the zone. I was thinking, that instead of displaying the grid, it could have the questions and numbers of down and across along with the edit field and something telling you how many letters the answer is. And when you answer a question, that the letter could be shown in a word that intersects it. There could be 1 crossword puzzle a day, and at the end of the day, you could get like five points for every clue you got right. And a bonus if you completed the entire puzzle successfully. I hope I described the layout clearly.
Souns good. I like word games, so, I'm all for it, if the admins are able to make such a game.
I also love the idea of having a daily crossword puzzle. I think you would be able to keep the grid concept too. I will try to explain this as best as I can.
You could set the crossword puzzle up in a table format, each cell would represent one block of the puzzle. Say for example, you have a five letter word, it uses five columns. Or, put another way, it uses five cells in that row.
Edit boxes could be used in each of the cells that contain a letter, and the cells which are simply place markers, could simply be left blank. Alt tags *I think that is what you call it when you atach a name to something, like an edit box* could then be used so that a person playing, knows where in the crossword the number of the clue is located.
Then, a person would just have to use the table movement commands to navigate around the crossword and enter into forms mode when they want to type in a letter.
As mysticrain already said, at the end of the day, points could be awarded for the number of clues filled in correctly, and a bonus to those who completed the entire puzzle.
I miss not being able to play these anymore and I think it would be fun. smiles

*cringe*...wow, sounds complicated to me, but...who knows! Maybe Chris or J might be able to make something of it...I'll send them to this one, and well, I guess they'll write a response when they have an answer for you.

Yes, I also hope that they can make somthing of it. I have been looking for accessible crosswards for a while, with little success. I find things that say make your own, but I want to play them, not make them. lol
This sounds like a grand idea. Hopefully the Admins can make this happen. Crossword puzzels are fun.

I love word searches too, but I'm not sure how that would work over the computer. I guess it's possible, but I've never done it. It's a good idea. I really enjoy both word searches and crossword puzzles.

Adding to the list of people who love the idea of a daily crossword. Just a thought though, assuming the format's doable, coming up with a whole crossword every day is a lot of work. Newspapers have people they pay to do just that, and the cryptic ones are something else altogether. I think the only way it could work here would be to have a sort of feed, presenting the daily crossword from another site or paper in a screenreader friendly format, and giving credit to the original source, and I have no idea how to go about that. But I still love the idea...
I love the idea of cross words. I used to play them all the time with one of my sighted friends! But how about a cross word section that if the zone developers can come up with a way for it to work, which has a few crosswords in it, like say ten, that we could play, then we, the users, could create more and have people play them, rather than having to depend on the staff for a daily crossword. Any of us could create them whenever we feel like it. I'd love to create as well as play yhem, plus it would take the work off of the staff.
